Mexican Amber

This is not a stone.

It is fossilized tree resin. Organic material formed 25 million years ago, during the Miocene epoch, in what is now Chiapas, Mexico.

From Simojovel, Chiapas — Mexico

One of the very few regions in the world where this amber exists.

Unlike common amber, Mexican amber is known for its depth, clarity and internal light.

Each piece is completely unique.

Formed by nature, never replicated.

Handcrafted in Mexico using sterling silver 925.

What you see inside each Zappah piece is not mineral. It is ancient life — air bubbles, organic fragments, the visible record of a world that existed before humans walked the earth.

That cannot be manufactured. It cannot be replicated. It has no equal.

Why Chiapas — and nowhere else

Mexican amber from Chiapas is chemically distinct from Baltic amber, the variety most Europeans know.

Baltic amber is 35 to 50 million years old. Chiapas amber is 22 to 26 million years old — but its unique chemical composition produces colors that Baltic amber rarely achieves: deep greens, cherry reds, and a blue iridescence found in less than 0.1% of total production.

Simojovel de Allende in Chiapas is the only region in the world where Mexican amber exists in quantities sufficient for jewelry. The mines are family-operated. Extraction is done entirely by hand. Every stone passes through the hands of someone who knows that land.

How to identify real amber

The European market is saturated with synthetic amber, young copal resin, and colored plastic sold as authentic amber. The differences are verifiable.

Real amber is light in weight. It holds a temperature close to skin when held. When gently rubbed, it produces a faint, sweet fragrance. Synthetic alternatives feel colder, heavier, and show uniform color throughout.

Every Zappah piece carries an official Certificate of Authenticity from the Consejo Regulador de la Estrategia Marca Chiapas — the only body in Mexico authorized to certify the genuine origin of Chiapas amber.

Registration 1871037. Verifiable.

Why it is never restocked

Each amber stone is unique by nature. The pattern of inclusions, the exact color, the form, the transparency — no two exist anywhere in the deposit.

When an artisan in Simojovel sets a specific stone in sterling silver 925, that combination exists exactly once in the world. Not as a marketing decision. Because nature does not repeat.

Zappah does not restock its pieces because it cannot. The stone that sold no longer exists available. That is not artificial scarcity. It is the truth of the material.

One piece. One owner. Never restocked.
